Empowering grassroots change: How London South Bank University boosted JRAW Foundation’s growth
The JRAW Foundation, founded by Jecholiah Williams, is an organisation that focuses on protecting and empowering vulnerable young people — especially girls aged 8–18 who’ve faced trauma, exploitation, or emotional hardship. Through healing-focused workshops and safe community spaces, JRAW helps young people rebuild confidence, self-worth, and hope for the future.
In March and April 2025, Jecholiah attended London South Bank University's (LSBU’s) Funding and Grant Writing: Essentials for Grassroots Organisations and Tracking Success: Record-Keeping, Reporting, and Programme Wrap-Up workshops.
“As a grassroots organisation yet to receive funding, access to expert guidance is rare but vital — and these workshops offered exactly what we needed to grow,” says Jecholiah.
The workshops helped Jecholiah:
- Craft a ‘Theory of Change’ to communicate JRAW’s impact to funders
- Create targeted grant writing strategies that align with funder priorities
- Focus on producing stronger evidence collection methods, including credible third-party proof
- Make sure that smarter budget planning with clear procurement processes and cost estimations were considered
Real impact followed fast
JRAW improved data security, streamlined reporting processes, and compiled a list of grants they now feel confident to apply for. These changes strengthened the organisation’s ability to prove impact and scale both in London and, one day, globally.
“These workshops didn’t just give us tools — they gave us confidence. I’d 1000% recommend them to anyone starting or growing a CIC,” Jecholiah adds.
Thanks to LSBU’s wraparound support, networking opportunities, and practical advice, JRAW is now on a stronger path to securing funding and transforming more young lives.
