Andrea Artz is a London-based multimedia artist working across photography, installation and immersive VR and AR. For her latest digital artwork, Andrea wanted to capture the movement of a dancer using Motion Capture technology - but as a freelance artist still testing the idea, a commercial Motion Capture studio was simply out of reach.
The support
Through the UKSPF BIG Growth Innovation Programme, Andrea was connected with London South Bank University's School of Arts and Creative Industries. Over a one-week collaboration - including hands-on access to LSBU's Virtual Production Studio and Rokoko Motion Capture suite - Research Fellow Kristina Pulejkova mentored Andrea through the full process: recording and cleaning Motion Capture data, applying it to a virtual avatar, and building her VR piece in the Unity game engine.
The impact
- Learned industry-standard Motion Capture and virtual production techniques
- Created a new-to-market artistic service blending traditional art with digital production
- Produced "Albertina the Snow Woman" - a digital artwork now exhibited internationally, including a feature with Blue Shift Gallery
- Gained a structured project roadmap for integrating technology into her future practice
Andrea is now planning further exhibitions and new funding applications to build on this work.

Andrea is planning a group exhibition and a new digital artwork using the same Motion Capture approach, building on the momentum from this project.

About the programme
The BIG Growth Innovation Programme was delivered by LSBU with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, administered by the greater London Authority. It connected South London businesses with academic expertise across four strategic clusters: health & life sciences, net zero & nature, experience & visitor economy, and creative & digital through structured, funded collaborations with LSBU and partner universities.
